Drop Everything And Read: Home Body

I was never the biggest fan of the poetry genre but when I found out about Rupi Kaur, I grew more interested in it. Rupi is an amazing writer and brilliant with words. And the way she delivers poetry is not like anything else I’ve ever read or seen before. In   Home Body,  she touches on topics like the past and present, abuse, self-love, womanhood, relationships, and more and invites readers into spaces that can make one feel like everything will eventually be okay, no matter where you find yourself in life. When I sat with   Home Body , I took in every word and was blown away. It’s a book of poetry that’s bold, cathartic, and inspiring and one definitely worth checking out. If you’re looking for something good to read,   Home Body  is a great selection.

The Night An Ignorant Police Officer Came At Me Sideways

It was a little after 10 pm and my friend and I were leaving a concert.   As I pulled out of the concert venue and drove in the direction that one of the parking lot staffers directed me to go towards, another staffer shouted out at me to stop. So when I saw a row of cones in the direction I was motioned to go, I stopped, turned my car around, and proceeded to head towards where I thought another exit was.   Before I could find a way out, an older white male officer approached the vehicle.    “What are you doing?” he asked me in a hostile tone.    “I’m just trying to leave,” I replied. “I went the way the dude up front told me to go and then somebody shouted for me to stop, so I turned around when I saw the cones. I didn’t see a way out past the cones.”   In an even more demeaning tone, he responded, “What do you mean you can’t see? All you have to do is go straight and take a left.” (Keep in mind that cones were blocking the direction he was referring to, and it was really dark out. I

Falling In Love With Jesus

One of my favorite worship songs is “Falling In Love With Jesus” by Kirk Whalum. I believe the song was originally written by Jonathan Butler, but its power and lyrics are undeniably anointed and a pleasure to listen to. Especially when I’m spending time with the Lord. What I love most about the song is the call to being in His presence – which is something that is a necessity for me daily. I can’t imagine doing life without Jesus, especially while living and moving through this world. He’s the one certainty in a life full of uncertainty. I know that I can pray, cry out, and talk openly with Him about everything I’m experiencing and going through. And so can you.  In this season and in seasons to come, I highly recommend setting aside quiet time to be in His presence. He loves you and cares about you, and the least you could do is actively make time to spend time with the one who loves you most. Luke 5:16 reads, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” He recognized the

At Taste At The Porch

I’m always up for checking out new restaurants. So when my family wanted to get together for a Sunday meal at a place on the water called The Porch, I was game. And this place was nice. Like   super  nice. The food, ambiance, and customer service were excellent. When we arrived, there was already a line building outside the restaurant before they opened. And once we were seated, I could see why. The setting was beautiful, and the scenery was impressive. I already can’t wait to visit again and highly recommend checking this place out for yourself. If you’re in the Hampton Roads area and looking for a chill spot to grab a bite, head into The Porch and enjoy!

Sydel’s Story

One day during my lunch break at work, I came across a YouTube video posted by a young woman I follow named Sydel Curry-Lee. In her video, she openly shared her story about the difficulties surrounding her desire to have a child. As I finished watching the first video, I went on to view the second one. Then the third. And I was moved by her words, her vulnerability, and her courage. So much so that I couldn’t wait to feature her story on the blog. Although I’m not a parent and uncertain about whether God has plans for me to become a mom someday, I could relate to Sydel in the sense of having a heart’s desire that won’t go away.   I’ve included the videos to her story  here . Be sure to watch them in order. Seeing how God moved in her life is a powerful testimony you don’t want to miss.     Also, as someone who doesn’t have a child, there’s something I’d like to address. If you are a parent and interact with or know of adults who don’t have children, please stop saying thoughtless thing
